Great introduction to brewing REAL beer yourself! I’m just writing this review to help balance things out here. It’s not quite fair that this kit’s overall rating is determined by several people whose thermometers got broken. Even after the guy from the company offered to replace them, the reviews stand, giving people a bad impression of this kit.I recently got into homebrewing, and it all started with a couple of these kits from Brooklyn Brew Shop (their Bourbon Dubbel and Spring Lager). They show you that despite what you may read out there, it’s not necessary to “ease into” brewing by starting with malt extracts, which I consider the equivalent of “baking a cake” using a boxed cake mix. If you buy the cake mix, add an egg and some milk, and pop it in the oven, did you REALLY bake a cake yourself??? If you say yes, then go ahead and buy a Mr. Beer kit with its pre-hopped malt extract and easy no-boil method, or better yet, go buy yourself some Bud Light and be done with it.If, on the other hand, you…

A great kit for apartment brewing If you’re looking to get serious about homebrewing this kit is for you. That said, if you’re looking for a quick “try once with minimal effort”, skip this kit and instead go for the . The Mr. Beer kit comes with a liquid mix, so it doesn’t require seeping grain and ferments much faster. That said, the quality of the beer is substantially lower than that of the Brooklyn Brew Shop kits. The kit comes with MOST of what you’ll need to start homebrewing, but WILL REQUIRE some additional equipment. Specifically, you’ll also want to buy/have on hand:- A six to eight quart stock pot, like this (click link for smaller sizes)- A funnel – cheap plastic will work, but you’ll want to eventually upgrade to one with a strainer like…

Excellent 1gal Brew Kit I don’t know why so many people are whining about their broken thermometers… How is that Brooklyn’s fault that the shipper did a poor job transporting it? Just write them a letter asking for a new thermometer or better yet — go buy a replacement one yourself! Its such a shame that so many people have trashed this excellent kit because of such a trivial thing.I have this kit and have made six batches so far. All were excellent. I really love how easy this system is and best of all its all grain! No nasty extracts etc. that plague the first time brewer’s early trials. If you get the book you’ll get 52 more recipes and can continue to make brews by buying grains and hops yourself. The best part about this system is how manageable it is on the smaller scale and how much fun it can be. If you wind up with 10 bottles of great tasting beer that’s a success! If you wind up with a bad batch, then at least you don’t have 5 gallons (about 50 bottles worth) wasted which…
