Power and Performance

The PC60THPK’s 6 amp motor delivers 16,500 RPM of power for a variety of applications, including planing wood planks, doors and joists, as well as, chamfering or profiling edges. It also has the power to make a 5/64-inch cut in one pass max. Outfitted with two types of blades, you can choose between high-speed steel (HSS) blades or carbide blades depending on your needs. While HSS blades can be used in more aggressive situations, such as planing nail embedded wood, carbide blades can be used for finer construction, such as furniture or boat making.

The planer’s depth adjuster has 10 positive stops positioned every 1/16 of an inch up to 5/64-inch, helping you accurately gauge how much material you’re removing. To ensure level and square results, the planer’s 11-1/2-inch cast aluminum shoe is furnished with three chamfer grooves, which enable you to make the most common bevel cuts with ease. Finally, a kickstand under the aluminum shoe helps protect the blades and work surface when the unit is not in-use.

Comfort and Convenience

Positioned behind the tool and close to the work surface for control, the planer’s handle is equipped with a comfortable over molded grip to reduce any vibration. The unit also incorporates a depth dial with the same overmolded grip at the front of the tool. The PC60THPK is also equipped with replaceable motor brushes to help extend the tool’s life, as well as a replaceable belt drive system for quick servicing and a minimum of downtime. A 6-foot high grade cord provides added flexibility in cold weather.

Dust Extraction

For a clean worksite, the PC60THPK features a thick mesh filtered dust bag that captures wood debris and dust particles. A practical, dual dust extraction lever enables you to switch the exit port to the left or right side of the planer, which provides flexibility in any application. The dust extraction ports are also vacuum compatible and the unit comes with an adaptor that can connect directly to most worksite vacuums.

Warranty

This Porter-Cable tool is backed by three-year limited warranty covering any defects due to faulty materials or workmanship (from the date of purchase). It’s also covered by Porter-Cable’s one-year free service contract, where Porter-Cable will maintain the tool and replace worn parts caused by normal use–for free.

Fantastic tool! I ordered this last fall out of desperation…I needed to edge plane a bunch of 40 year-old sugar maple boards. They were dirty and grimy having been stored for decades. I didn’t want to wreck the edge on my very expensive jack-plane blade, so I figured I would likely just wreck this tool trying to get those edges cleaned up.I really didn’t know what to expect. I have a 18″ power planer (the boards were too wide to fit edge-wise!), and I had read reviews of very expensive and heavy powered hand-planers. Wow! What a great surprise this little phand planer was….This little planer blew through that filthy maple with amazing speend leaving a finish-ready surface. …so I figured since I hadn’t wrecked the planer …yet…so I would try planing the top of one of my work benches of years of accumulated glue, epoxy, paint, etc. Again, the results were terrific and even after what I considered abusive treatment, it left a very nice smooth surface. So I…

WOW! I am extremely happy with this purchase thus far. This is the first electric hand planer I have used and I fell in love with it instantly. I grew up with the old fashion hand planers and I could never get a good finished edge with one of those. I’ve used the full size bench planers and those a great but only when you are planing boards that can pass through the openings. I bought this because i had to switch out hinges on my old cabinets and need to plane off anywhere from 0″ to 1/8″ of the edges. It’s worked like an absolute charm so far. I’m ending with edges are are just as good if not better than if I did it with a high quality table saw. One big advantage that I have been having luck with, is when I need to plane more off one end than the other, I have been turning the dial slowly while planing and still getting a beautiful finished edge. I recommend practicing on a piece of scrap before you do any finishing work so that you can learn the limitations and all…

front and back shoes not in same plane at zero setting Received this unit from Amazon last Friday. Came fast and it looked like a good solid unit. I ordered this Porter Cable because the 1594k Bosch I recently purchased had unparallel shoes and I did not feel it was up to me to try and adjust it like some others had done, so I returned it. The Porter Cable shoes were parallel but not zeroed correctly. I had to set the adjustment knob to 1/32″ to get the 2 shoes in the same plane which reduces the maximum cut from 5/64″(.080″) down to 3/64″(.048″). I called Porter Cable and they said there was no way for me to adjust it to the proper zero setting. They recommended I contact a nearby authorized P-C service center which I did. The service center said it was not something that they do. So I’m returning this unit as well. With all the 5 star ratings on this planer I guess I’ll reorder the same unit and hope I have better luck.(April 9) I have changed my rating on this unit to a 5 star. Before returning the unit I looked at the…
